Municipal Court Matters
Municipal Courts in New Jersey handle a wide range of charges including:
– Traffic Tickets
– Misdemeanor Violations
– Assault / Harassment
– Disorderly Conducts Charges
– Drug / Paraphernalia Possession
– False ID
– DWI / DUI
– Shoplifting
– Municipal Ordinance Violations
More serious violations, indictable offenses, are transferred to County Court. New Jersey does not have misdemeanor / felony charges. Rather, an indictable offense is the equivalent of a Felony charge and carries the possibility of a minimum 1 yr jail sentence. All other disorderly persons offenses are the equivalent of misdemeanor charges.
